Ras Algethi was a funeral doom band founded in 1993 .

history

The funeral doom band Ras Algethi was founded in 1993 in Milan. The group is reckoned to be among the pioneers and forefathers of the genre with the release of a demo and an album, and both releases have been declared classics of the early genre. In a review of the music magazine Rock Hard , Oneiricon - The White Hypnotic was declared "the best Doom Metal disc so far". The Deaf Forever mentioned the album at number 32 on the list of The 50 Best Doom Albums of All Time . Shortly after the album Oneiricon - The White Hypnotic was released on Wounded Love Records , the group broke up due to internal disputes. Meanwhile Berchi Mauro, Matteo and Luca Risi founded a follow-up project based on Dark Wave as Canaan , while drummer Silvio took part in the funeral doom band Enoch at times .

style

The webzine Doom-Metal.com describes the music played by Ras Algethi as one of the "suicidal-darkest and most desolate forms of Doom Metal ever recorded". Atmosphere and mood are also highlighted in album reviews.

“Clean vocal parts with a really, it seems, hopeless voice, growls that are not necessarily deep, but seem to come straight from a painful heart and an organ that helps the guitar out from time to time. […] These three songs are slow and hymn-like but also fragile and graceful. "

Björn Thorsten Jaschinski, on the other hand, describes the music as an individual, naive and touching continuation of the Death Doom of the Peaceville Three : “Lush church organs, dreamy leads, clean guitars and enraptured clear vocals versus barking”.
