Rasputin in the Allwetterzoo Münster

Rasputin (born December 22, 2003 in the Leipzig Zoo ; † February 24, 2016 in the Allwetterzoo Münster ) was a Siberian tiger .

Rasputin was born on December 22nd, 2003 in the Leipzig Zoo and came to the Allwetterzoo Münster on April 19th, 2005 . Since 2007 he lived with the female tiger Nely . There never was any offspring. Rasputin weighed around 170 kilograms.

An incident on September 19, 2013 attracted a great deal of attention when Rasputin killed a 57-year-old zookeeper with a bite on the neck in the outdoor area. The orderly had forgotten to close a security gate between the indoor and outdoor facilities. According to zoo director Jörg Adler , the tiger was not to blame, as it was an instinctive and natural reaction to the "intruder". The incident sparked a general discussion on keeping tigers in zoos and led to the safety technology of the tiger enclosure being checked again and upgraded for around 80,000 euros.

On February 24, 2016, Rasputin had to be euthanized because of an inoperable, malignant tumor. After a corresponding request, his body was given to the LWL Museum für Naturkunde Münster and prepared there . In February 2017, after months of work, the preparation was presented to the public. The tiger is exhibited as an exhibit in the museum as part of special exhibitions.
