Ratanpur is a city in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh .

In the 2011 census, the population was 24,636. 94% of them were Hindus and just under 5.5% Muslims . The literacy rate was 76.76%. The gender distribution was 950.

location

Ratanpur is located in the Bilaspur district , 23.5 km north of the district capital, Bilaspur . Both cities are connected to each other by the national road NH 111 . The Khutaghat Dam lies northeast of the city.

history

Ratanpur was the capital of the former kingdom of Chhattisgarh until 1818 . In the Middle Ages there were several gemstone cutters that worked the stones found here (mainly from the chalcedony and jasper mines ) and delivered pearls. Now the city lives mainly from the cultivation of agricultural products, such as the cultivation of mangoes .

The main attraction of the city is an old royal palace. Other sights include a fort and several Hindu temples, including the Mahamaya Temple, the Bhudha Mahadev and the Ramteki Temple.
