Sömmerda town hall

The two-storey town hall of Sömmerda, the district town of the Sömmerda district in Thuringia , is on the market square next to the Protestant church of St. Bonifatius .

description

The east-facing main wing of the town hall, a two-storey Renaissance building, was completed in 1539, as evidenced by an inscription on the south side. The plastered solid building is covered with a gable roof from which two roof turrets rise. At the southeast corner there is a risalit with the portal to the Ratskeller . On all sides of the main wing there are single and paired windows from the time of construction. The new town hall was added to the southern area in 1554. The western parts of the town hall date from the 18th century. Until 1834, the town hall had a staircase that was covered on both sides and led to the large town hall. Today's two-flight flight of stairs leading to the portal was only created in the 20th century. In the area of the portal there is a relief with the coats of arms of the cities of Erfurt and Sömmerda.
