The town hall of Treffurt is a half-timbered building from the Renaissance period and a cultural monument on the market square of the town of Treffurt in the Wartburg district in Thuringia .

Architecture and history

The town hall was built from 1546 to 1549 in the Renaissance style on older foundations. In 1616 the building was expanded to include the distinctive five-storey half-timbered tower, which rests on columns decorated in baroque style above the two-legged staircase.

The entrance to the Ratskeller is under the town hall tower. This is from the epoch of Ganerbschaft Treffurt decorated with the coats of arms of the Kurmainzer , the Saxon and the Hessian sovereigns.

At the beginning of the 20th century the town hall was plastered and the tower slated. During the renovation of the building in the 1990s, this was reversed and the half-timbered facade was restored.
