The town hall in Wiesentheid

The town hall of Markt Wiesentheid is the representative administrative seat of the Lower Franconian community. It is located at the central Balthasar-Neumann-Straße 14 in the middle of the village and forms one of the focal points of the Schloss Wiesentheid ensemble .

history

After the market in Wiesentheid passed to the von Schönborn family in 1704, building activity began in the town. Wiesentheid was converted into the future headquarters of the family. One of these new buildings was the town hall. The previous building had recently been the victim of a fire. In the years 1741 to 1743 it was rebuilt in the Rococo style. The Erlangen painter Karl Johann Georg Reuss was won over for the coat of arms above the portal.

As early as the 18th century, the town hall was also used as an official building for the count's administration. The rulership and market judge sat here . With the transition to the Bavarian state in 1814, Wiesentheid was awarded a regional court . Now the building became the seat of the judge. In 1862 the regional courts were converted and the market became the central seat of the Wiesentheid district court .

In 1925 the district court was dissolved. Now the building was initially only used as a council seat. By the end of the Second World War , the local school also moved into the town hall. With the municipal renewal of the municipal area reform in the 1970s, an extension became necessary, which was completed in 1978. The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation classifies the town hall as an architectural monument. The Abtswind market archive is also housed in the premises .

description

The town hall presents itself as a rococo building that ends with a sweeping mansard roof . It has two superimposed levels of dormer windows and ends with a central, lantern-like clock tower. The portal was installed in the center of the building. It has a round arch and a likewise round gable. The coat of arms of the community of Wiesentheid, which was probably created by the Erlanger Reuss, was attached above.
