History and architecture
The building was erected in 1837/38 as a city school on the southern side of the town's market square, which was newly laid out at the time. A two-storey plastered building was built on a rectangular floor plan. The building is covered by a flat gable roof. The façade of the gable side facing the market square is characterized by rectangular windows arranged in pairs and by plaster blocks . In the middle there is a double axis highlighted by pilasters .
One-storey ancillary buildings were built to the east and west, with the east being built in half-timbered construction. The auxiliary buildings were later connected to the main building.
From 1939 the school building was used as the town hall.
