Town hall Grabow on the market

The town hall of Grabow originally came from the 13th century. It was rebuilt in 1727. It is located in the center of Grabow directly on the market square.

timeline

The city Grabow received in 1252 by the Earl of Dannenberg the city charter . Soon after, the first Gothic town hall was built on today's market square. In the town fire of 1725, the church, town hall and many houses were partially or completely destroyed.

The new construction of the town hall from 1727 is the work of the official builder Christian Reichel and the carpenter Joachim Schlubeck. The two-storey half - timbered building in the Baroque style was provided with a mansard roof. There is an open town hall tower, a "lantern" with a curved hood. A gable triangle forms the three-axis central risalit and the entrance with its double staircase.

Reuter memorial plaque

One of the ancestors of the writer Thomas Mann was mayor of the town hall . The successful efforts of Mayor and Councilor Friedrich Franz Floerke in 1839 to release Fritz Reuter from Prussian imprisonment are also known.

The town hall was thoroughly renovated around 1998.
