Sangerhausen town hall

The town hall of Sangerhausen is a monument in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt .

Sangerhausen is referred to as an oppidum in 1194 and a city wall can be documented for 1263. It is not known when the first town hall was built. The current building has two major construction phases. It was built between 1431 and 1437 and an extension to the east was added in the second half of the 16th century. This resulted in a rectangular building made of Rogenstein with deep cellars, two main floors that can be reached via an outside staircase and several attic floors. The baroque roof turret with its octagonal lantern is an indication of a later renovation. The east gable has flat segmental arches.

The town hall stands between Markt and Kornmarkt north of the castle on the east side of the market. There is a head called Roland on the facade . It is conceivable that it is the rest of a Roland statue . The town hall is under monument protection and is entered in the monument register with the number 094 30459. The building is also home to the Ratskeller and, since 1874, the registry office, to the west of it is the market fountain.
