Ratschkathl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ratschkathl is a female stage character of the popular theater and means "Ratschende Kathi". Today the term is generally used in the Bavarian and Austrian languages as a synonym for a talkative female person.

The popular actress Elise Aulinger is considered to be the inventor of the role of "Ratschkathl" . The comedian Ida Schumacher is also associated with this role, who perfected the role in the play Die Ratschkathl vom Viktualienmarkt . Also Liesl Karlstadt played the role of "Ratschkathl". Because of her first name, the lively actress Kathi Prechtl was often referred to as "Ratschkathl". The cabaret artist Maria Peschek appears in her stage role as Paula Pirschl with a kitchen apron as a typical Ratschkathl.

Due to the regionally different dialects of the Bavarian language, the spellings Ratschkatl , Ratschkattl and Ratschkaddl have also become established. From 1889 to 1921, the popular weekly newspaper Münchener Ratsch-Kathl appeared in Munich , which described itself as an "entertainment paper for comfortable traffic".
