Kathi Prechtl

Kathi Prechtl , née Katharina Mühsam , (* 1909 in Munich ; † 2002 ) was a German folk actress , playwright and monologist who celebrated her greatest successes as a dialect humorist in Munich in the middle of the twentieth century and during the years of the economic miracle .

Life

In 1909 she was born as Katharina Mühsam in Munich as the daughter of an unskilled worker. At the age of nine she earned her first living by cleaning stairs and shoes as well as washing dishes for the family of seven. At the age of 12 she started an apprenticeship in a grocery store.

Appearances in the radio show The White and Blue Barrel Organ made them known to a larger audience. In the 1960s Prechtl received a contract with the record label Tempo . In 1988 she played her grandmother twice in two plays in Peter Steiner's Theaterstadl, both of which were also performed on television. On the Bavarian stages she was mostly announced as " Ratschkathl ".

Her pieces and monologues in front of sold-out houses became known nationwide , especially through the record . After years in which her work fell into oblivion, it is now enjoying greater popularity again thanks to CD reprints and sales.
