Ratskeller
The Ratskeller (also Ratsklause ) is a common name in German-speaking countries for restaurants that are located in or in the immediate vicinity of a town hall . Ratskeller are usually one of the local traditional restaurants and offer home-style cuisine . Often the utility rooms referred to as cellars are owned by the city or municipality, which leases them to an innkeeper. The Bremen Ratskeller or Ratskeller zu Lübeck are very well known .
In various cities of the United States where German immigration took place, the name has also been preserved. The American Ratskeller are often in the Midwest, but also in New England, like the punk original club The Rathskeller in Boston.
