Rattle and Snap (also called Polk Granberry House ) is a Greek Revival style mansion in Maury County ( Tennessee , USA).

The building was constructed in 1845 by George Washington Polk (1817-1892), one of the sons of Colonel William Polk , a veteran of the American Revolutionary War , and a cousin of James K. Polk , US President from 1845 to 1849. The original plantation on which the building stands was 5,648 acres . Built by slave labor , it is the largest and most extravagant mansion in Maury County, and is a typical example of the grossly lavish architectural style of the southern states from 1845 to 1860 . It is built of limestone and brick, surrounded by ten columns and two and a half stories high. The Polk family lived in this property for 15 years.

During the Civil War , the house was one of the few to be spared looting and arson by Union soldiers . After this war, the family could no longer afford the property and house due to bankruptcy. Rattle and Snap was sold to Joseph John Granberry in 1867. He lived there with his family for over 50 years.

Legend has it that the land on which Rattle and Snap was built was won by the governor of North Carolina in a game of chance of the same name .

In the 1940s and 1950s, the house was used as a barn to store hay and keep chickens. In 1953 the Babcock family bought the house and restored it, but only the later owner, Amon Carter Evans, former editor of "Nashville Tennessean", who bought the house in 1979, completed the restoration. This is said to have cost him more than six million USD . However, in 2002 he went bankrupt and lost the house to his bank.

In 1971 the building was entered on the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark with number 71000825. It is located on the Andrew Jackson Highway, Tennessee State Route 243, about 12 km from Columbia , the county seat of Maury County.

The current owners are Bobby Kaslow and her husband Michael Kaslow, who bought it from the bank in 2003 for an unknown sum.
