Rauenthal (Meissen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rauenthal (also: Rauhental ) is a district of Meißen , Saxony .

The Rauenthal is a short and deep left side valley of the Triebisch valley , southwest of the Meißner old town . It lies between Questenberg and Jüdenberg, to the northwest is the Kynastiedlung , to the northeast Hintermauer and at the southeastern exit of the valley is the Meissen porcelain factory in the Triebischtal district .

The place name is first mentioned in 1286 as "Ruenthal", in 1421 the place is called "Ruwental". The spelling "Rauenthal" is handed down from 1447, in 1791 the reinterpreted form "Raupenthal" was also in use. The self-explanatory place name means "rough valley" and describes a shaggy, uneven and barren terrain. This shows that the valley did not offer favorable conditions for viticulture in the end.

In the Rauenthal there was an outer work of the St. Afra monastery . Margrave Heinrich III. In 1241 gave the Buch monastery a farm with fields and vineyards in Meissen. It was probably Rauenthal. In the same year, Bishop Konrad I von Wallhausen ordered the monastery to grant the monastery a wine tithe for a Rauenthal vineyard. In 1431 there was an allodium .

After the Einzelgut desolate liked was, it took centuries to the repopulation of the terrain. As early as 1791, vineyards are occupied there, which in 1875 had exactly 91 inhabitants. Immediately after the phylloxera disaster, there was a group of houses in 1908, at that time a distinction was made between the Upper and Lower Rauenthal. Today the Rauhentalstraße runs through the town, the spelling of which corresponds to the German spelling of the 20th century ("rough" instead of "rough").
