Ray Hyman (born June 23, 1928 in Chelsea (Massachusetts) ) is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Oregon in Eugene , Oregon.

Life

At a young age while studying at Boston University , Ray Hyman worked as a magician and palm reader . He earned a doctorate in psychology from Johns Hopkins University in 1953 and taught for several years at Harvard University . He also became a specialist in statistics . After three years in the private sector, he became a professor in Eugene in 1961. Together with other well-known skeptics such as Martin Gardner and Paul Kurtz , he founded the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP) at State University at Buffalo in 1976 , which publishes the journal Skeptical Inquirer .
