Ray Rigby (weightlifter)

Ray Rigby (actually Raymond Edward Rigby; born June 11, 1949 , † August 1, 1998 in Ballarat ) was an Australian weightlifter and shot putter .

Career

In weightlifting, he competed in the heavyweight division at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City. In the press he failed at the initial weight of 160 kg. In 1970 he won the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in the super heavyweight category (over 110 kg).

In 1973 he won bronze in the shot put at the Pacific Conference Games . At the British Commonwealth Games in 1974 in Christchurch he was sixth and at the Athletics World Cup in Montreal in 1979 eighth.

He was Australian champion in the shot put six times (1969, 1972, 1973, 1979, 1983, 1984). His personal best in this discipline of 18.14 m, he set on March 4, 1983 in Melbourne .
