Raymond Cartier
Raymond Cartier (born June 13, 1904 in Niort , † February 18, 1975 ) was a French journalist and writer .
Life
During his university studies, Cartier was political editor of the newspaper Écho de Paris , in 1937 he co-founded the magazine L'Époque . In 1944 and 1945 Cartier was a captain in the French military police . In this function he also interviewed the head of the health department of the hygiene institute of the Waffen-SS, Kurt Gerstein . Cartier helped found the now world-famous Paris Match magazine in 1949 , of which he was editor-in-chief during the 1960s.
In 1965 he published Histoire de la Seconde Guerre mondiale , now a standard historical work on the Second World War . In 1971 Histoire mondiale de l'Après-Guerre followed , in which the story is continued after the end of the war until around 1963.
