Raymond Schummer
Raymond Schummer (born March 31, 1937 in Luxembourg ; † October 10, 2009 ) was a Luxembourg wrestler and sports official.
Career
Schummer was the most successful Luxembourg wrestler after World War II . In 1960 in Rome and 1964 in Tokyo he took part in the middleweight division in Greco-Roman style at the Summer Olympics. He was eliminated both times after the 2nd round. Between 1964 and 1971 he was a four-time Benelux champion. At the EEC tournament in Rome in 1973 he took second place and won the overall victory at the strong Austrian Grand Prix. He also fought for Saarbrücken for three years in the Ringer Bundesliga .
After the end of his active career, Schummer remained closely connected to wrestling. From 1995 to 1996 he was President of the Fédération Luxembourgeoise d'Haltérophilie, de Lutte et de Powerlifting (FLHLP) and then moved within the association to the position of sports director in the wrestling division.
