Raymundus Martinus ( Raymund Martini , Ramon Martí ; * 1220 ; † 1285 ) was a Catalan Dominican who worked as a censor for Jewish literature and was involved in the religious discussion in Barcelona in 1263 .

He wrote the extensive and influential work Pugio fidei ("Faith Dagger"). In it he had compiled numerous anti-Christian passages from Jewish literature. His anti-Jewish tendency had devastating long-term effects, v. a. after printing in Paris in 1651 (by J. de Voisin) and Leipzig in 1687 by Johann Benedikt Carpzow . Through the mediation of Porchetus Salvaticus, she also worked on Martin Luther and his work Vom Schem Hamphoras .

The spelling for Jehovah , Jehovah or Jehovah is traced back to him. He translated the word around 1270 from various parts of the Bible from Hebrew into Latin; in the manuscripts of his work Pugio Fidei adversus Mauros et Judaeos , the tetragram is reproduced with Iehovah . It is assumed that he combined the masoretic punctuation of the vowels belonging to either adonaj (Hebrew: “Lord”) (a [pronounced as “e”] - oa) with the consonants IHVH to IeHoVaH or these vowels from eloah (Hebrew : "God") or the majesty plural elohim.
