The Reich Association of the Deaf of Germany e. V. ( ReGeDe ) was the first association that represented the interests of the deaf throughout Germany . It was founded in Weimar in January 1927 ; in May 1927 the club's headquarters were relocated to Berlin .

The association was held at a founding meeting on January 15 and 16, 1927 in Weimar. Members of the first executive board were as 1st chairman Fritz Albreghs (businessman, Berlin), 2nd chairman Johann Liepelt (hearing, senior teacher, Berlin), 1st treasurer Oskar Schönrock (hearing, city secretary, Berlin), 2nd treasurer Alfons Levy ( Chemist, Berlin), 1st secretary Fritz Mehle (Pressvergolder, Berlin), 2nd secretary Richard Siebke (upholsterer, Berlin) and as assessor Paul Kroner (dental technician, Berlin).

In the spring of 1933, during the National Socialist era, the name and statutes of the National Socialist Reich Association of the Deaf in Germany were changed. V. made. According to a letter from the NSDAP in autumn 1933, the association was not allowed to use this name, so that the statutes had to be changed (back) and the old name continued. In December 1940 there was a further change in the statutes and the name in Reichsbund (previously Reich Association) of the Deaf Germany. V. ( ReGeDe ). In May 1943, the German hearing and speech impaired welfare organization (DGS) was founded in Plauen in Vogtland . At the same time, the ReGeDe was incorporated into the DGS.

After the Second World War , the German Deaf Association was established in 1950 as the successor organization in the Federal Republic of Germany . V. (DGB), which still exists today. In the former GDR , the General German Deaf Association (ADGV) was founded as a successor organization in 1957 , which was renamed the Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the GDR (GSV) in 1973 after the association had also admitted the hard of hearing since 1961 . After the reunification in the GDR , the deaf and hard of hearing in the GDR joined the respective federal German associations in 1991, i.e. the German Association of the Deaf (DGS) and the German Association of the Deaf (DSB).
