Rebecca Walker (born November 17, 1969 in Jackson , Mississippi ) is an American writer, political activist and publisher.

Life

Walker, née Rebecca Leventhal, is the daughter of the Afro-American feminist Alice Walker , author of the later film “The Color Purple”, and the Jewish-American lawyer Melvyn Leventhal. After her parents' divorce, she lived temporarily with her mother and temporarily with her father, and when she was 18 she took her mother's name. She graduated cum laude from Yale University in 1992 .

She has been co-editor and author of Ms. magazine since 1989. In 1999 she co- founded the Third Wave Action Foundation with Shannon Liss . The concept of third-wave feminism is traced back to Walker. The supporters of this movement, the so-called Third Wavers , see themselves as committed to gender equality, racial justice, economic and economic justice (“working towards gender, racial, economic, and social justice”).

Walker is the author of numerous magazine articles, has appeared on CNN and MTV , and has been featured in newspaper and magazine publications. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Women of Distinction Award from the National Association of University Women , the Feminist of the Year Award from the Fund for the Feminist Majority , the Paz Y Justicia Award from the Vanguard Foundation , and the Intrepid Award from the National Organization for Women , the Champion of Choice Award of the California Abortion Rights Action League and the Women Who Could Be President Award of the League of Women Voters .

Time Magazine named her one of the 50 future leaders of America.

2019 Walker was in the anthology New Daughters of Africa by Margaret Busby added.

As an actress, she appeared in a supporting role (as March ) in the 1998 film With All Power .
