Rebutia wessneriana is a species of plant in the genus Rebutia from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the German merchant and owner of a cactus nursery Wilhelm Wessner (1904–1983).

description

Rebutia wessneriana grows sprouting with depressed, spherical, bright green bodies with a thorn-free apex and forms groups. The bodies reach heights of growth of up to 7 centimeters with a diameter of 8 centimeters and have fiber roots. The ribs are arranged in a spiral and not always completely dissolved into hexagonal cusps. The elliptical areoles on it are white. The white to whitish about 25  thorns are indistinguishable in central and radial spines. They are stiff, bumpy, interlocking and are up to 2 centimeters long.

The blood-red, sometimes purple at the tips, flowers appear on the side of the plants. They are up to 5.5 inches long and have the same diameter. The pericarpel and the corolla are covered with some scales. The spherical fruits are cloudy reddish purple and have a diameter of 5 to 7 millimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Rebutia wessneriana is widespread in northern Argentina in the Jujuy province at medium altitudes. The first description was published in 1948 by W. Bewerunge.
