The RECARO Aircraft Seating GmbH & Co. KG , based in Schwaebisch Hall is a global manufacturer of premium aircraft seats and part of the RECARO Group , which also includes the RECARO Holding and eGaming.

More than 1,000 employees of around 2,300 employees worldwide work at the headquarters in Schwäbisch Hall. The company has additional locations in the USA, China, Poland and South Africa and is also represented worldwide with customer centers.

With a turnover of around 487 million euros (in 2017), RECARO Aircraft Seating is one of the three largest aircraft seat manufacturers worldwide.

history

In 1906 the then 32-year-old saddle master Wilhelm Reutter recognized the opportunity in the rapidly growing automotive industry and dared to found his “Stuttgarter Carosserie- u. Radfabrik ”took the step into independence.

In 1920/1930 the company produced for all well-known car manufacturers. Forerunners and prototypes of the Volkswagen (Beetle) were also manufactured by Reutter on behalf of the Porsche design office.

In 1963 the Reutter bodywork was sold to Porsche and a new chapter in the company's history began, specializing in the core competence of car seats: the seat specialist RECARO emerged from REutter and CAROsserie.

In 1967 RECARO invested in the new location, Schwäbisch Hall .

The company took off in 1971 and initially produced the first aircraft seats under the license of the American manufacturer Hardman Aerospace under the name "RECARO Aircomfort". Shortly thereafter, the design team developed its own models and in 1974 the company received its first major international order from Korean Airlines .

The separately managed companies Keiper and RECARO became Keiper RECARO GmbH in 1983 through a merger. The production of aircraft seats was completely relocated to Schwäbisch Hall and expanded under the name “Keiper RECARO Aircraft 'Seating Division” and the brand name “RECARO Aircomfort”.

On January 1, 1997, Keiper RECARO GmbH became the Keiper RECARO Group with four independent companies. These include RECARO GMBH & Co. KG in the automotive sector and RECARO Aircraft Seating GmbH & CO. K as an aircraft seat supplier.

In 2011 the automotive division was sold to Johnson Controls and today RECARO Automotive Seating is part of the US supplier Adient.

In 2012 the RECARO Holding returned from Kaiserslautern to the founding location in Stuttgart .

With an average market growth of 5%, RECARO Aircraft Seating is growing around 10% faster than the market.

In order to promote the integration of refugees, the company also financed German courses for asylum seekers in 2015 as part of the “Recaro connects” initiative. Furthermore, Recaro Aircraft Seating is one of the main sponsors of the Dreikönigslauf in Schwäbisch Hall.

The victims of the flood disaster in Braunsbach, the destroyed city in the Hohenlohe region, were also supported. With a Recaro immediate donation and an employee initiative, the company donated to the affected Recaro employees and provided support with the clean-up work.
