São Lourenço is a former municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Portalegre . It has 4989 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

Portalegre was divided into seven inner-city parishes until it became the seat of the newly created diocese Portalegre in 1549 (since 1956 Diocese Portalegre-Castelo Branco ). As a result, the communities were merged and reorganized. This resulted in the two inner city communities São Lourenço and .

Since then, São Lourenço has united the northern half of the city, while Sé comprised the southern half of the urban area.

Attractions
