Recep Gurkan

Recep Gürkan (born August 1, 1964 in İpsala , Edirne Province ) is a Turkish politician of the CHP . He is a former member of parliament and has been Lord Mayor of Edirne since March 30, 2014 .

Live and act

After graduating from high school, he received his training in 1983 at the Edirne Pedagogical College, which is affiliated with Trakya University . In 2001 he graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Anadolu University in Eskişehir .

After completing his studies, he became a teacher in various Turkish schools and later deputy headmaster in Edirne.

The appointment as general secretary to Trakya University took place during the rectorate of Enver Duran .

Recep Gürkan was elected to the Turkish parliament in the parliamentary elections in 2011 , but gave up his seat in 2014 in favor of running for mayor of Edirne.

On the occasion of the local elections on March 30, 2014, he was elected Lord Mayor of Edirne. Recep Gürkan has cultivated the city friendship with Lörrach since his work at Trakya University .

In the local elections in 2019, he was able to defend his office with around 45% of the vote.

Recep Gürkan is married and has two children.
