Enver Duran (2011)

Enver Duran (born June 19, 1945 in Bursa ) is a Turkish professor of medicine, specialist in cardiological surgery, he was rector of the Trakya University Edirne 2004–2012 (July) and has been the dean of the medical faculty in Istanbul Arel Universitesi since 2013.

Life

Duran grew up in Bursa, where he attended the Resit Paşa elementary school (1951-1956), the Osmangazi primary school (1956-1960) and the high school Bursa (1960-1963) until he graduated from high school in 1963. In 1963 he began studying medicine at Ankara Universityand completed it in 1969. He then worked as a doctor at the Gülhane Military Academy for Medicine in Ankara. 1971–1973 he worked as the chief physician in a catering hospital in Izmir. 1973–1977 he worked as an assistant at the Gülhane Military Academy for Medicine in Ankara in the department for general surgery. After completing his advanced training in general surgery, he was employed as a cardiological surgeon from 1977 to 1980 and as an assistant professor of cardiovascular surgery at the Gülhane Military Academy of Medicine in Ankara. On April 16, 1985, he received his lectureship in the cardiovascular surgery department at Hacettepe University . He then worked from 1985 to 1990 as a lecturer at the Gülhane Military Academy for Medicine in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery in Ankara, where he also acquired his professorship. 1990-1998 he was director of the University Clinic Haydar Paşa of the Gülhane Military Academy for Medicine in the Department of Surgery for Cardiovascular Surgery. 1998-2004 he worked as the head of the department of cardiovascular surgery at the medical faculty of the Trakya University.

In 2004, Duran was appointed rector of Trakya University . On July 28, 2006, during the 55th annual meeting of the university rectors, Duran was elected chairman of the council of Turkish universities for two years. At the same time he led the rectorate of the Namık Kemal Üniversitesi in Tekirdag from 2006–2007 and also the rectorate of the Kırklareli Üniversitesi from 2007–2008 . Since 2008 Enver Duran has also been President of the Inter-University Association for Medical and Health Science Education in Turkey.

In 2008, he was re-elected to extend his rector's term at Trakya University until 2012. Enver Duran was elected chairman of the Turkish Medical Council by the members of the University Council.

On the initiative of Rector Duran, the following projects and facilities have been initiated at Trakya University:

• Opening of the department for Balkan languages ​​and corresponding contracts with partner universities. Under the umbrella of this department there are courses for the following languages: Albanian, Armenian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Greek, Romanian and Russian.
• The " Germany Meeting Point ", a project funded by the Robert Bosch Foundation and supported by the Goethe Institute , was opened in cooperation with the Trakya University,
• A project regarding a technology park for company founders has started and will be continued,
• The University's Balkan Congress Center expanded,
• The distance learning TUZEM set up,
• The Erasmus relationship with the Cooperative State University Loerrach initiated and expanded in 2005 together with Bernd Martin and Manfred Raupp,
• the “Sultan Beyazit II” health museum affiliated to the university was further expanded and made accessible to the general public again,
• The former medical school founded in 1488 has been restored and opened as a new part of the museum,
• Founding of the dance group “Balkan Gençlik Ateşi Folklor ve Dans Topluluğu” (Young Flame Balkan Folk Dances), which performs modern dance and folk dances from the Balkan culture,
• With the support of her successful team, the Journal of Medicine of Trakya University, among those of the other medical faculties, became the first journal to be awarded the scientific criteria for SCI-Expanded ,
• The Trakya University Kindergarten has reopened after renovation and modernization
• Between 2004 and 2008, 103 programs and projects were implemented. The most important of these are:

  • Arda Vocational College
  • Keşan Vocational College

Duran was President and Host of the Conference of Balkan Universities and Vice President of the World Congress of Universities in Canakkale in 2010 . Duran received lasting support from the Secretary General of the University Recep Gürkan and the Director for Foreign Relations Hilmi Ibar . His successor as Rector of Trakya University was Yener Yörük in August 2012 , who was succeeded by Erhan Tabakoğlu in July 2016 .

Enver Duran is married to the Turkish author Mine Duran, has two children and lives in Istanbul.
