Yener Yörük

Yener Yörük (2012)

Yener Yörük (born May 25, 1963 in Manisa ) is a Turkish professor of medicine, specialist in thoracic surgery and was rector of the Trakya University in Edirne from August 2012 to August 2016 .

Live and act

Yener Yörük obtained his higher education entrance qualification in 1981 in the Anatolian high school Eskişehir . He started his studies at the Medical Faculty of Istanbul University after taking the demanding entrance exam in the group of the top 100. After his doctor's examination in 1987, he completed a year of practice in the hospital in Gümüşhane Köse . He then started his scientific career in 1988 in the Thoracic Surgery Department at the Faculty of Medicine at Trakya University in Edirne.

This was followed by a three-year assignment in the Thoracic and Vascular Surgery Department of the Faculty of Medicine in Istanbul-Cerrahpaşa, as well as a one-year assignment abroad at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle (England). After returning to Trakya University in 1993, he was appointed specialist and department head for thoracic surgery and assistant professor. In 2002 he was appointed associate professor and in 2007 full professor at the Trakya University Edirne.

His administrative duties at the university included the deputy management of the university hospital 1994–1997, the management of the general secretariat of the university foundation 2005–2009, the membership of the medical faculty management 2008–2011 and the university administration since 2008. In 2011 he completed one three months research stay for lung transplantation at the University Hospital of the University of Toronto . Yörük has written 188 publications so far, 98 international publications refer to them (2012).

On August 5, 2012, Yörük succeeded Enver Duran as rector of Trakya University, and in August 2016 he passed the office on to Erhan Tabakoğlu .

Yener Yörük is married to a lawyer and has two grown sons.
