Legal advisor (Bundeswehr)

Legal advisers (RB) are employed within the framework of the administration of justice by the German Armed Forces at the command authorities of the armed forces from the divisional level (or comparable units and departments) upwards as personal advisers to the commander , commander or head of office . They advise in particular on questions of military law and international law . In armed conflict , the legal advisor is an advisor on questions of international humanitarian law . The legal advisor must clearly mark intentional violations.

The legal advisers at the discharge authorities are military disciplinary attorneys on a part-time basis . They basically carry out the investigations on behalf of the discharging authority and represent them in court .

Legal advisers of the Bundeswehr take part in foreign missions as staff officers and are or have been deployed in the following missions: Somalia UNOSOM II , Croatia UNPROFOR , IFOR , Bosnia SFOR , EUFOR , Kosovo KVM , KFOR , Macedonia Task Force Fox , Afghanistan ISAF , Lebanon UNIFIL , RD Congo EUFOR RD Congo and ATALANTA in the Horn of Africa .

Legal advisers belong to the only civil area of ​​the Bundeswehr that is obliged to provide military training by virtue of an official mandate. Unemployed officers are trained accordingly through general military training, with a majority of the officers deployed being trained reserve officers (sometimes even with special training as parachute or mountain fighters or lone fighters). The administration of justice by the Bundeswehr is part of the armed forces according to Art. 87a of the Basic Law and does not belong to the defense administration according to Art. 87b of the Basic Law.
