Recycling design award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The RecyclingDesignpreis has been awarded since 2007 by the Herford Working Group Recycling eV (Recycling Börse! ) As part of a national or, in the meantime, international competition and is endowed with € 2,500. More than 600 designers from 16 countries took part in the 6th competition in 2013, including around two thirds from Germany. The exhibition of selected works takes place regularly in the Museum MARTa Herford . This was followed in 2013 and 2015 by exhibitions at the Federal Environment Agency in Dessau, the Museum der Dinge in Berlin and the stilwerk design centers in Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Cologne and Vienna. The 8th RecyclingDesignpreis (2017) was awarded on January 28, 2018 in the MARTa Herford and presented there with further selected works until April 22, 2018.

Competition criteria

The award is given to work that turns waste and production residues into objects for everyday, practical or decorative use. The motto of the award is: "Design instead of throwing away - the hidden meaning of things that are thrown away". The submitted designs are assessed according to the following criteria: design quality - utility value - feasibility (with physically and mentally handicapped people, youth workshops, employment initiatives, in the handicrafts) - environmental compatibility - novelty - future potential.

Competition target

There is a demand for designs for recycling products that can be manufactured by institutions for promoting employment or by craft businesses . Some of the first products to be produced in small series are presented to the platform for second sense. ZweiSinn is a network of craft businesses, qualification companies, workshops for people with disabilities, designers, etc. whose aim is to create meaningful work. The Herford Working Group Recycling eV, which organizes the Recycling Design Prize, is part of this network.

organizer

The Arbeitskreis Recycling eV was founded in 1984 in Herford and has since created jobs and qualification positions by recycling valuable materials and reusing used items. The association runs second-hand department stores in Herford, Löhne, Bünde, Bielefeld and Spenge and is culturally involved, e.g. B. with the RecyclingDesignpreis.

Conditions of participation

Eligible are (prospective) designers and creative professionals from the trade. Since 2008 there has also been a separate competition department for schoolchildren and trainees from East Westphalia-Lippe .
