Red Lake rocket launches
The Red Lake rocket launches were a series of 33 sounding rocket launches . They took place in February 1979 near the Canadian city of Red Lake and were used to study the effects of the total solar eclipse of February 26, 1979 on the atmosphere.
Launch and infrastructure facilities
For the experiment, two places were prepared: The McMarmac Site or McMarmac launch site ( location ) just north of Red Lake, and the Chukuni Range or Chukuni launch site ( location ) about 30 km south-east, outside the urban area. The Chukuni Range had a launch complex with three launch positions for rockets from the Tomahawk , Nike , Loki , Honest John , Hawk , Black Brant and Arcas series . The McMarmac site had a complex with two starting locations forAstrobee , Loki and Arcas. In addition, there were a number of infrastructure and communication facilities.
After the end of the launch series, these areas were no longer used for space travel purposes.
