Red Letter Day was a Hamburg band founded in 1989 .

history

The band developed partly from the Jesterbells , where two of the four founding members of Red Letter Day ( Oliver Goetzl - vocals and drums and Gerrit Herlyn - vocals and guitar) already played together. The two were complemented by Florian Braunschweig (bass) and Stephanie Hendel (violin). The band was founded in the summer of 1989 and in the same year recorded their first 7 ″ vinyl EP untitled , which they released on Oliver Goetzl's indie pop label Marsh-Marigold Recordspublished. Numerous concerts and club tours followed in 1990 and 1991: a considerable fan base grew, especially in East Germany. In 1992, Thomas Overdick was added as the second guitarist. The band left a total of five releases - including two albums - before they broke up in 1995. Oliver Goetzl, Gerrit Herlyn and Thomas Overdick then continued to make music together as Knabenkraut and in 2015 celebrated the 20th anniversary of this still active Hamburg guitar pop band.

Red Letter Day's style is indie pop .
