The Redfieldiidae are an extinct group of freshwater fish . They lived from the Triassic to the Lower Jurassic .

The Redfieldiidae had a spindle-shaped body, a terminal or lower mouth and a dorsal and anal fin lying far back, which were symmetrically opposite each other. The caudal fin was heterocerk . The number of fin rays was higher than that of the fin bearers (Radialia), the Branchiostegalstrahl reduced to one or two plate-shaped bones. The individual outer nostril, on each side of the head, was enclosed by an unmistakable “ premaxillary ”, the nasal , the rostral and the adnasal bone.
