reduction
A reduction is a conical fitting , or a shaped piece or a conical pipe section within a pipe and forms the transition between two different diameters .
A distinction must be made between:
- Concentric reductions in which the wall of the reduction follows a straight circular cone ,
- Eccentric reducers in which the wall of the reducer follows an oblique circular cone and one of the surface lines runs parallel to the pipe axis. These occur, for example, in sewer pipes and ventilation ducts .
Concentric reductions are more favorable from a fluidic point of view, as they cause a lower pressure loss . Eccentric reducers are used to avoid obstructing the flow of gravity lines . Pipelines with eccentric reducers are also easier to route along walls, ceilings or floors and do not require pipe supports of different heights .
