Fitting

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In plant engineering, the fitting is a collective term for pipe-like parts in a pipeline . Corresponding parts are called fittings , especially in building services .

Flanged T-piece with different nominal widths on a steam engine

This includes:

Pipe bends allow changes in the direction of the pipeline, T-pieces and pipe branches allow the flow of fluids to be divided and merged , and reductions change the nominal diameter of the pipeline. There are fittings made of many materials, in different nominal sizes and pressure levels .

Fittings cause turbulence and thus pressure losses in the pipe flow, which are greater the stronger the deflection. The pressure losses are included in a pipe network calculation by applying a dimensionless, so-called zeta value for each fitting , which was determined experimentally and can be found in tables. Zeta values take numerical values from 0.5 to approximately 2.0 for fittings.
