Rees Gwerder

Jakob Andreas "Rees" Gwerder (born July 30, 1911 in Bisisthal , municipality of Muotathal , † January 4, 1998 in Arth ) was a Swiss folk musician and master of impromptu playing on the Schwyzerörgeli .

Rees was the son of a mountain farmer in the Muotathal . He made his first musical attempts at the age of five with his father's Schwyzerörgeli. At the age of 34 he married and moved to Arth, where he ran a small farm on the Rossberg .

He formed his Ländlermusik main formation with the Schwyzerörgeler Ludi Hürlimann and the bass violinist Dominik Marty , known as “Sity Domini”, with whom he made several recordings. Most recently he had around 300 pieces (“Tänzli”) in his repertoire . Marty said of him that he had saved the old dances.

Rees Gwerder was one of the protagonists in Cyrill Schläpfer's film Ur-Musig (1993) .
