occupation

Ur-Musig is a documentary by the Swiss director Cyrill Schläpfer . The film presents the folk music of Central Switzerland and the Appenzellerland without comment .

content

The journey through the soundscapes of the two pre-alpine and alpine regions follows the course of the year. It begins and ends with winter customs ( New Year's Eve and Bloch in Urnäsch , Carnival in Schwyz and Klausjagen in Küssnacht ). The focus is on musical sounds in the life of mountain farmers such as yodelling , the alpine blessing , the ringing of cowbells or communication between humans and animals as well as well-known interpreters of the country music of these regions. In restaurants or in the living room they play Appenzell string music or Schwyzerörgeli . The then 82-year-old Rees Gwerder can be seen particularly often in the film , who initiated Schläpfer into the Muotatal folk music.

criticism

Köbi Gantenbein described Ur-Musig as "a feast for the ears and eyes". The film hit the zeitgeist in the 1990s, although it scraped past kitsch and showed nothing but sound. He had presented Lander , Scottish and Juuz as purely rural, although they also had an effect and consequences in the proletarian culture of the city.
