The Reformed Congress of Lesotho (RCL; Sesotho : Bolekana ; German for example: "Reformed Congress of Lesotho" or "Frugsamkeit") is a party in Lesotho . It became the sixth largest party in the 2015 general election .

history

In 2014, the majority of the 26-member parliamentary group of the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) decided to terminate the coalition with the All Basotho Convention (ABC) and the Basotho National Party (BNP). Some MPs, including the former Secretary General Keketso Rantšo, did not support this step. Her wing was disparagingly referred to in the LCD as Bolekana , Rantšo as ' Mabolekana, something like : "Mother of frugality". They then left the party and founded the Reformed Congress of Lesotho in December 2014 .Rantšo was elected as chairman, her deputy was Motloheloa Phooko. Another woman, 'Mamolula Ndabe, was elected as general secretary. They kept the name Bolekana .

In the February 2015 elections, the RCL was the only one of 23 parties to run with a woman - Keketso Rantšo - at the top of the electoral roll. She put up candidates in all 80 constituencies , including 22 women. The RCL received 1.2% of the vote, two of the 120 seats in the National Assembly . From then on, they form the opposition there with ABC (46 seats) and BNP (seven seats).

On May 26, 2015, following the two other opposition leaders, Rantšo fled to South Africa for fear of an assassination attempt. The three politicians returned from their exile on February 12, 2017. The day before in Ladybrand 'Machabane Lemphane-Letsie was elected as the new General Secretary. Her predecessor Ndabe then joined the Alliance of Democrats .

The RCL lost one seat in the elections in June 2017. Since then, it has been a member of the coalition government under Tom Thabane (ABC) and, with Rantšo, has a minister in the Thabane II cabinet.

On February 29, 2020, Keketso Rantšo was replaced as chair by 'Machabane Lemphane-Letsie. Rantšo appealed to the court.

Rantšo also retained her ministerial office in the Majoro cabinet formed in 2020 .
