Jamie Hughes (born April 5, 1977 in Liverpool ) is a former English football player .

Life

The striker tested positive for amphetamines during a doping control early in his career with Tranmere Rovers . He was the first English soccer player to be caught using performance enhancing drugs and was banned for six months. In 1996 he went to Rhyl FC in the League of Wales . From 1997 to 1999 he was under contract with the Connah's Quay Nomads . He then moved to Cardiff City in the English Second Division . He was only used there twice and was loaned to Cwmbran Town in January 2000 . He then went to Bangor City and back to Connah's Quay Nomads. In 2001/02 he was with Derry City FC in the Irish Premier Division , which won the 2002 FAI Cup . Other stations in his career were Vauxhall Motors FC , Northwich Victoria , Lancaster City and Airbus UK .
