Reformed Church of San Giorgio (Borgonovo)
The Reformed Church of San Giorgio (Italian for "Saint George", apparently there was a medieval predecessor under the patronage of St. George ) in about Stampa belonging village Borgonovo in Bergell is an Evangelical - Reformed church under protection of the canton of Grisons . It stands on the western edge of the village.
History and equipment
The church is first mentioned in 1327. The current building was built in 1694 as a hall church in the late baroque period. The tower stands as a campanile with a two-storey bell house, facing the facade.
In the lunette on the final wall of the rectangular choir, there has been a painting by Augusto Giacometti on Jesus' entry into Jerusalem since 1935 . The pulpit dates from 1695, the supper table with a marble base from around 1760.
In the cemetery are Augusto , Giovanni , Alberto and Diego Giacometti and painter Elvezia Michel Baldini buried.
Church organization
Borgonovo forms the Bregaglia pastoral community with the other Reformed Bergell villages . The Evangelical Reformed Regional Church of Graubünden conducts this within the Colloquium VII Engiadin'Ota-Bregaglia-Poschiavo-Sursès .
