The Reformed Church Schwerzenbach is a church building in the municipality of Schwerzenbach , Canton of Zurich , Switzerland .

history

The church is located on the site of a previous medieval building . It was built from 1812 to 1813 according to plans by Hans Conrad Bluntschi in the classicist style, albeit with late baroque echoes. The dominant staircase was built in 1817.

description

The unusual church building has the floor plan of an oval church . Access is via two portals on the symmetrically designed long sides of the church. This gives the optical impression of a transverse church . The facades are formed by a portico , an overlying oculus and two flanking arched windows. The central neo-baroque roof turret with an onion helmet made of red-painted shingles from 1937 reinforces the impression of a transverse church. In fact, it is a lengthwise hall church .

The simple wooden pulpit is located on the east wall . The Mathis organ on the west side was inaugurated in 1989. A memorial plaque for the reformer and martyr Jakob Kaiser is placed under the gallery . In 1989 the artist Lisa Stauffer created four colored glass windows for the central window , which can be exchanged depending on the time during the church year .
