The Reformed Convict Halle was established in 1890 by the Reformed cathedral parish and is located in the cathedral district in Halle (Saale) . The Convict is now a Church Foundation of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany and the Evangelical Church of Anhalt . The house is a student residence for students of theology and other subjects and is in close connection with the theological faculty of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, the Evangelical Church in Central Germany and the Evangelical Church of Anhalt. A special concern of the foundation is the cultural and spiritual exchange between theology students, mainly Reformed denominations in Eastern Europe. It is the only “reformed” convict in Germany.

history

The convict was founded on April 24, 1890 through the commitment of the three cathedral preachers Gerhard Goebel, Hugo Albertz and Gustav Beelitz. The building dates from 1912. Built at the instigation of the cathedral preacher August Lang and financed from donations, gifts and the sale of a field that was needed by the city of Halle for the Gertraudenfriedhof, it was designed as a student residence for theology students.

The declining number of Reformed theologians in the post-war years opened the door of the Reformed Convict to Lutherans in 1923. During the time of National Socialism as well as in the GDR , the Reformed Convict became a place of refuge and work place for students and lecturers of theology who thought differently. Günther Dehn , for example , who was dismissed due to his involvement in the church struggle, moved his courses to the Reformed Convict. In 1960 the first female student moved into the house.

Todays situation

Today the Reformed Convict is a registered foundation. In addition to this, there are two other Evangelical Konvikt in Halle (Saale): The Evangelical Konvikt and the Silesian Konvikt .
