Rain jacket
A rain jacket (sometimes also a windbreaker , from English ) is a light jacket to protect against rain . It is made of waterproof or water-repellent material. Rain jackets are usually equipped with a hood that is cut on (remains outside) or is located in the collar of the jacket. They are often worn in combination with rain pants when cycling . The rain cape is a similar shape .

In everyday language, there is often no clear distinction between a rain jacket on the one hand and a wind jacket or windbreaker on the other. Windproof jackets do not necessarily have to be water-repellent or waterproof. Rather, real rain jackets that are waterproof are also windproof in any case.
Usually, however, both properties are combined in practice, so that the rain jacket serves as protection against wind and rain and could therefore rightly be called a wind jacket.

There are rain jackets with a full-length zipper or those with a half-full zipper that you pull over your head (so-called windbreakers or, better, slip-on jackets). There is usually a drawstring on the hem and on the hood.
material
There are rain jackets made of various more or less water-impermeable materials such as B. polyamide, nylon (partly coated, PVC , plastic and rubber ). Rain jackets made from Oilskin , oiled cotton, are breathable and have been worn for more than 100 years. More and more modern materials are used that are also breathable (e.g. K.WAY 2000 , Goretex and Sympatex , which are, however, brand names for these materials). This has the advantage that you don't sweat so much when exercising in the rain. The material transports a certain amount of moisture to the outside, but leaves nothing inside.

There are also complete rain suits (two-piece) or so-called rain suits (one-piece), actually overalls , the latter are particularly common in the motorcycle sector .
Fashion
In the hip-hop area, large rain suits with large logos are often worn for fashion reasons.
