Regensburg Sunday Bible

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Regensburg Sunday Bible is a Roman Catholic house book.

It contains the readings of the Sundays and public holidays of all three reading years for the Roman Catholic Mass and combines them with reflections by Joseph Ratzinger / Benedict XVI. and works of art from the diocese of Regensburg . It was edited by Bishop Rudolf Voderholzer with the collaboration of Maria Baumann, Sigmund Bonk , Hans-Georg Gradl , Josef Graf , Wolfgang Stöckl and Gabriel Weiten . It was published by Schnell & Steiner in Regensburg in 2017 . The second edition appeared in spring 2018.

The Regensburg Sunday Bible offers the daily prayer , the first reading, the second reading and the Gospel on every Sunday of the three reading years and on high and men's festivals . An aspect or a situation from the scriptures is illustrated with a work of art from the diocese of Regensburg . A brief meditation on Benedict XVI. and reflective questions stimulate a deeper understanding of the gospel and readings and translate them into one's own life.

An introduction by Hans-Georg Gradl makes clear the peculiarities of the various Gospels that characterize the respective reading years. The reading order of the church with different reading years is also explained in the introduction.

In his foreword, Bishop Rudolf Voderholzer goes into the origins of the Regensburg Sunday Bible. It therefore ties in with the tradition of Catholic house books (e.g. the hand postille of Father Leonhard Goffiné ). Like this, the Regensburg Sunday Bible is intended to contribute to a Christian design of Sunday. Bishop Wilhelm Egger von Bozen-Brixen also pursued this goal with his Sunday Bible , which he published in 1991.

Also Pope em. Benedict XVI., From whom the observations on the scriptures in the Regensburg Sunday Bible come, placed the Regensburg Sunday Bible in the tradition of the "Goffiné", i.e. the hand postille of Father Leonhard Goffiné. It should serve the preparation and follow-up of the Sunday Eucharist and bring the word of God to life in people's everyday lives.

Bishop Voderholzer therefore dedicated the Regensburg Sunday Bible to "all women and men who exercise the service of lecturer or communion helper in the parishes of the Diocese of Regensburg." In doing so, they realized their priestly and prophetic office, which was conferred on them in baptism and confirmation, and deceived contributes to a worthy design of the liturgy, so Bishop Voderholzer continues in his foreword to the Regensburg Sunday Bible.

In 2019 the Bishop of Passau, Stefan Oster , published the Passau Sunday Bible. It adopts the concept of the Regensburg Sunday Bible and is also published by Schnell & Steiner-Verlag . In contrast to the Regensburg Sunday Bible, it uses works of art from the Diocese of Passau to illustrate the Sunday readings.
