Construction of the Tanjung Bin Energy power plant began in August 2012. Network synchronization took place in October 2015. The power plant went into commercial operation in March 2016. It uses ultra-supercritical steam generators (see supercritical water ), which results in an efficiency of up to 47%. At full load, it consumes 450 tons of coal per hour. Up to 520,000 tons of coal can be stored on the coal storage area.
