Regensburg composite classification
The Regensburg Association Classification ( RVK , often also Regensburg Systematics ) is a classification for the recording of holdings in libraries . It was developed around 1964 at the library of the newly created University of Regensburg and has established itself in large parts of Bavaria and beyond as a classification system in academic libraries (especially in East Germany , but also abroad). It is constantly updated, the editing is in the Regensburg University Library . There is a working group for systematics in which different libraries work together.
In December 2017, the Regensburg network classification was restructured into an authority file and published as Open Data under the Creative Commons license CC0 .
construction
The RVK has 34 main groups, which are identified by capital letters. The subgroup is identified by adding another capital letter. The detailed breakdown is made using a three- to six-digit number sequence; In contrast to the decimal classification, for example, its digits do not reflect the structure hierarchy.
Example:
- A - General
- AN - books and libraries, information science
- AN 50000 - AN 89900 Librarianship
- AN 58000 - AN 64950 Biography, History
- AN 59000 - AN 59600 Library History
- AN 59100 antiquity
- AN 59000 - AN 59600 Library History
- AN 58000 - AN 64950 Biography, History
- AN 50000 - AN 89900 Librarianship
- AN - books and libraries, information science
To form the signature, an order word encoded using the Cutter-Sanborn method is added to the notation created in this way . This is usually the surname of the (first) author , in the case of works without an author it is the surname of the publisher , the issuing body or the first word of the title . The encryption is carried out using a table on which letter combinations are assigned to keys. A key consists of a capital letter and one to three digits.
Example:
- H694 - Hoepfner, Wolfram
The book “Ancient Libraries”, edited by Wolfram Hoepfner, would have the signature AN 59100 H694.
In some cases, chronological rather than alphabetical order is used, so that the year of publication is appended to the notation instead. The two elements are separated by a period and the year (for years before 2000) is shortened to three digits (for example .2012, .953).
Furthermore, the following elements can be attached to the signature for more precise specification:
- Edition (in round brackets, e.g. (3))
- Tape count (connected with a hyphen, e.g. -5)
- Number of duplicates (connected with plus signs, e.g. +2)
