The Regional State Museum of Folk Architecture and Customs, Chernivtsi ( Ukrainian Чернівецький обласний державний музей народної архітектури та побуту ) is an open-air museum of folk architecture in the Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi .

The museum

Construction of the museum began on July 19, 1977. It has been open to visitors since July 5, 1986. Important for the establishment of the museum were its first director, folklorist Taras Hertsyuk Schnitzer, museum planner Panas Mikolaichuk and scientists Pavelchuk Konstantin and Basil Pavluk.

The current exhibition consists of the two architectural and ethnographic areas Hotynschyna (with buildings and exhibits from the area around Chotyn , Kelmenzi and Sokyrjany ) and West Dniester ( Kizman , Sastavna , Novoselyzja ) (9.38 ha). The construction of the other areas is planned: Huzulschyna ( Putyla and partly Vyshnytsia ), Carpathians ( Storoschynez and Vyshnytsia) (6.4559 ha) and the archaeological sector of Old Bukovina . There are 35 buildings on the museum grounds. They are typical examples of folk architecture from the second half of the 17th to the first half of the 20th century. These include u. a. Residential and commercial buildings, barns, stables, chicken coops, barns, industrial and public buildings, mills, forges, an inn, a town hall and a church with a bell tower. The monuments are furnished with inventory that fits in with the times.

The museum has more than 8000 exhibits, including folk costumes, textiles, peasant tools, household items, furniture, crockery, handicrafts, works of decorative art, prints, photos, etc. The museum houses permanent exhibitions and special exhibitions on the folk culture of the Bukovina such as B. arts and crafts, traditional clothing, Bucovina carpets, woven belts, embroidery, pearls in costume, leather products, ceramics, wooden bowls, Easter eggs, folk musical instruments and icon painting.
