Regius Professor of Greek (Trinity)

Regius Professor of Greek is the title of Chair in Greek Philology at Trinity College , Dublin . The regius professorship was in 1761 by King George III. donated. In addition to this Regius Professorship for Greek Language and Culture, there are three other Regius Professorships, the Regius Professorship of Greek at the University of Oxford , the Regius Professorship of Greek at the University of Cambridge and the Regius Professorship of Greek at the University of Aberdeen .

Arthur Brown LL.D. 1792 1795 In 1785, Brown was appointed Regius Professor of Laws at Trinity College. He only took over the professorship for Greek on a temporary basis (see below).
George Hall DD 1795 1796 The later Provost of Trinity College and then Bishop of Dromore held several professorships, including history (1791) and mathematics (1799).
John Barrett DD 1796 1797 Barrett was known for his eccentricity, spoke Latin and Greek fluently, but barely a sentence of grammatically correct English.
