A rehabilitation advisor is a central point of contact for the sick, injured or disabled during the entire rehabilitation process .

He becomes particularly active when an injured party can no longer easily return to his old job, school or training place. To do this, he needs medical knowledge, but also special educational and professional knowledge. He has to assess the particularities of the individual case and work out solutions for professional reintegration. Both the ideas of the rehabilitation candidate and economic considerations play a role. The rehabilitation advisor conducts negotiations with employment offices , companies, professional development agencies and other bodies that may be important for school and professional rehabilitation. He also takes care of social rehabilitation .

Once the medical rehabilitation has been completed and a reasonable professional activity is possible, the following measures are available ( professional rehabilitation ):

Germany

Rehabilitation advisors are specialists employed by the German Pension Insurance , the Employment Agency or the accident insurances who advise the insured - especially on issues relating to benefits for participation in working life. Among other things, they hold consultation days in the information and advice centers of the German Federal Pension Insurance (former Federal Insurance Institution for Salaried Employees (BfA)) and in the rehabilitation facilities ( e.g. vocational support organizations or clinics).

Private rehabilitation services

In addition to the rehabilitation counselors in statutory institutions, there are a number of private rehabilitation services in Germany. The rehabilitation advisors at private rehabilitation services mainly work for accident victims in the transport sector . 11 private rehabilitation services are recognized by the traffic law working group in the German Lawyers' Association (as of June 9, 2016). Some of the private rehabilitation services are organized in ARGE REHA .

Austria

Employees of an Austrian social security institution are referred to as such , who advise and support the rehabilitation patients with regard to medical , professional and social rehabilitation measures.

The field of activity includes social counseling in hospitals , where z. B. if necessary, a follow-up treatment is organized in a rehabilitation facility. Furthermore, advice on the provision of medical aids and aids. If necessary, a home or company visit is made to clarify professional measures with all those involved (employees, employers, self-employed, temporary workers). Many rehabilitation counselors have now trained as a qualified social worker (DSA), and all of them must have passed the special examination at the main association of Austrian social insurance institutions .
