Reicher Synagogue

The Reicher Synagogue in Łódź ( Polish Synagoga Reicherów w Łodzi ) was built for the local Jewish community from 1895 to 1902 according to plans by the architect Gustaw Landau-Gutenteger .
The building is a listed building. The synagogue has space for about 42 people. The synagogue survived the Second World War because it was sold to a fictitious German trading company at the beginning of the German occupation in Poland . Until the end of the war it served the trading company as a salt warehouse. In the post-war period, the synagogue was restored for religious purposes and used by the Jewish community until 1968. After the Six Day War and the associated March unrest in Poland in 1968 and the wave of emigration, it stood empty for a long time and increasingly fell into disrepair. From 1988, however, it was completely restored and has since been used as a synagogue by the local Jewish residents of the city.
