The building of the former Reichsbank

The building of the former Reichsbank is located on St. Petersburger Strasse at the corner of Akademiestrasse in Dresden . It consists of the remains of the former Reichsbank building that have not been destroyed and are now listed .

description

The building of what was then the Reichsbank headquarters in Dresden , erected between 1928 and 1930 according to plans by Reichsbank building director Heinrich Wolff , is a New Objectivity- oriented” building. Wolff later also built the new headquarters of the Reichsbank in Berlin.

The building has "increased [...] urban significance, which, as a solitaire, marks the north-eastern end of the old town " and is an old building clad with shell limestone . Until 1945 the building was a two-wing complex, consisting of a corner building with an entrance and a main building. In 1945 the main wing with the two-storey, representative hall was destroyed. Only the corner building with the entrance to the building remained. From 1994 to 1997 a main wing was built again, which differs from the original building in terms of cubature and facade design. An additional staggered floor was set up and the facade was plastered in a terracotta color .

A planned use of the building in September 2015 as accommodation for at least 500 refugees was not implemented.

In 2017 the building was sold. The new owner rents out 10,000 square meters of shared office space in the building.
